Dr. Mihir (Max) Parikh, M.D. is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and has completed two fellowships in cornea, refractive, and anterior segment surgery. He is the San Diego Chargers Official Team Ophthalmologist and is responsible for all their eye care needs.
Dr. Parikh is a highly trained and educated refractive eye surgeon experienced in the most advanced surgical procedures and technologies. He has performed thousands of surgical procedures and specializes in LASIK, PRK, LASEK, Cataracts, Intraocular Lenses, Custom LASIK and Wave Front technology, Intacs, and CK for the treatment of nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia (reading glasses).
Dr. Parikh graduated Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California, Irvine and received his medical degree from University of Michigan Medical School. Dr. Parikh completed his internship in Internal Medicine at the New York University Medical Center and his ophthalmology residency at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. He completed his first fellowship in Anterior Segment Surgery with Dr. Robert Sinskey, President of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, at the Sinskey Eye Institute. He also completed his second fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the Sinskey Eye Institute.
Dr. Parikh is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Parikh has performed thousands of successful LASIK and refractive procedures, and was one of the first west coast surgeons trained in Custom Wave Front treatment technology; the latest refractive procedures shown to help achieve best-corrected vision.
Before dedicating his career to the field of refractive eye surgery, Dr. Parikh was involved in laboratory research in molecular biology and biochemistry at the University of California Irvine and in clinical research at the University of California San Diego Burn Center.
Throughout his career, Dr. Parikh has been the recipient of many honors and awards. He was awarded the Laurence Mehlman Prize. He was also the University of California Regents Scholar four years in a row and earned a scholarship from the University Of California Foundation. His presentation on the effects of intrastromal corneal lens implantation (Intacs) on nerve fiber layer thickness was honored best paper at the ASCRS 2000 conference in Boston, Massachusetts.
Having undergone LASIK surgery himself, Dr. Parikh is uniquely qualified to address questions or concerns his patients may have about refractive surgery. He continues to teach principles of ophthalmology and refractive surgery to fellow doctors and surgeons, and has published several articles in medical journals and publications. He is also the Chief Ophthalmologist for the Pauma Valley American Indians, an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at University of California San Diego, and is a staff ophthalmologist at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, Pomerado Hospital, and UCSD Medical Center.
